Saint-Malo, which is today a big port and a lively seaside resort, is famous for its bay where many islets were fortified at the time of Vauban in the 17th century. Over the 17th and 18th century, this impregnable site became one of the richest cities in the kingdom of France. This was made possible by the doings of its privateers, ship owners and traders. Bombed in August 1944, it was destroyed to 80%, but its reconstruction gave the city its former appearance. Come and follow the paths of its great figures such as Cartier, Surcouf, Chateaubriand, Duguay-Trouin…
